SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police arrested a man Thursday after he chased his girlfriend and stabbed a man who attempted to intervene.

Hinegano Taueva, 32, was charged with Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury following the incident at 109 S. 300 East.

Police say Taueva demanded money from his girlfriend and stole her purse before chasing her with a knife through a parking lot.

As Taueva was chasing the woman, another man approached and punched Taueva. In an ensuing fight between the men, Taueva stabbed the other man. It is not known if the two men knew each other before the altercation.

The stabbing victim was able to get into a car and drive away.

Taueva continued chasing after the woman, who hid behind a car before Taueva walked away and laid down outside a nearby apartment complex where he was contacted by police and taken into custody.

The police report says the male stabbing victim was later found nearby with potentially life-threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown.
