SALT LAKE CITY — The man who pleaded guilty last month to killing 15-year-old Baleigh Bagshaw in 2018 was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole Tuesday.

Shaun Patrick French, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder on July 1 and had his remaining charges — sexual exploitation of a minor, aggravated burglary, obstructing justice and tampering with a witness — dismissed with prejudice.

French killed Bagshaw on May 7, 2018 while she was on the phone with her mother. He was arrested two days later in Colorado after confessing the murder to a relative and disposing of a knife and his bloody clothes in Wyoming, which police found after an extensive search of a landfill. He was then extradited to Utah to face the charges.
