WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — First responders are at the scene of a fatal crash in Wasatch County.
A head-on collision between two passenger vehicles resulted in one person's death, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 40 near milepost 34 — between Heber City and Strawberry Reservoir. It was first reported by the Utah Department of Transportation shortly before 6:30 p.m.
A small passenger sedan crossed into the eastbound lane, where it collided with a pickup truck. The driver of that sedan was pinned, and was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The driver of the truck sustained incapacitating injuries, and is expected to recover.
Authorities are investigating alcohol as a contributing factor, with witnesses reporting seeing the sedan swerving prior to going into oncoming traffic.
Both directions of the highway were stopped, UHP tweeted around 7 p.m. They advised drivers to expect long delays throughout the evening because their investigation could take "a while."
As of about 8:45 p.m., a line several vehicles long was visible on a traffic cam via UDOT's website.
Both directions of traffic were closed until 9:10 p.m. with one lane being used to alternate traffic through the area.
