SMITHFIELD, Utah — One person has died after an early morning auto-pedestrian accident.
Smithfield City Police were dispatched just before 5:00 AM to the intersection of 100 South and Main Street.
According to a press release, 77-year-old Larold Nyman was walking west across Main Street when he was struck by a white four-door sedan.
The driver, who remained on scene, was unable to see Mr. Nyman due to low light visibility.
Lifesaving measures were performed, but Mr. Nyman was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver was interviewed and released at the scene. Officers did not detect any signs of impairment, and no charges have been filed.
During their investigation, officers learned that Mr. Nyman would regularly cross Main Street to use the laundry facilities at a nearby laundromat.
