Police: Woman shot after pointing gun at police in Provo

PROVO, Utah — An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in Provo Thursday evening.

According to the Provo Police Department, officers were dispatched to Utah Lake State Park located near 4400 West Center Street due to reports of a woman in her 20's waving a gun in the air.

Officers arrived at the park and located the suspect. After ignoring repeated commands from officers, the female reportedly pointed the gun at officers and she was shot.

Medical aide was immediately administered on the scene and she was transported to Utah Valley Hospital.

Police said she ignored their commands and eventually pointed the weapon at them.

The county-wide Officer Involvement Critical Incident is leading the investigation in to the accident.
