Prison riot reported in Elko County; Authorities say no inmates escaped

UPDATE: Nevada Highway Patrol officials have confirmed to FOX 13 that no prisoners have escaped.

Inmates from a Nevada State Prison may have escaped during a riot, according to Wendover Police Department.

In a brief statement warning residents of possible prison escapees, Wendover Police say a prisoner riot at the Wells Honor Camp or Wells Conservation Camp in Independence Valley, Nevada may have resulted in escapes. The prison is located 45 miles west of Wendover, and approximately 165 miles from Salt Lake City.

"Staff under threat as some prisoners may have escaped," the announcement read.

Authorities have requested backup from the Elko County Sheriff's Office, Nevada Highway Patrol and Elko Police SWAT.

Elko County Sheriff's Office later released a statement, saying in part:

Upon arrival, law enforcement was advised three to six inmates had been involved in an physical altercation.
The inmates were detained by law enforcement and medical treatment was provided for minor injuries. One inmate was transported to the Ely State Prison for further medical treatment.
