KEARNS, Utah — A serious accident Thursday afternoon in Kearns left a teenager dead and another person in critical condition.
On Friday, Unified Police identified the deceased as 17-year-old Chaz Groat of Kearns.
Two vehicles were involved in the collision, with an SUV partially ending up on the front yard of a home.
Police say the car driven by the teen lost control and crossed over into the eastbound lanes and slammed into the other vehicle.
The teen and female driver of the other car were both transported to the hospital. No passengers were in either car at the time of the crash.
Officials closed 5400 South in both directions at 4900 West as they investigated the cause of the accident and cleaned up debris.
The extent of the injuries to one of the drivers is not known.
