SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County has a new task force for handling its response to COVID-19 (novel coronavirus).
County Mayor Jenny Wilson announced the formation of the Salt Lake County COVID-19 Unified Command during a news conference Wednesday morning.
The Salt Lake County Health Department has not announced any COVID-19 cases within the county, but Wilson and other leaders want to be prepared as the virus continues to spread.
"Unified Command is evaluating plans on how to provide essential services to our citizens," Wilson said in Wednesday's news conference.
Some of the county's employees have been conducting exercises to test the viability of working from home, if needed, for services such as payroll processing and other critical aspects of county government.
Salt Lake County already has protocols for continuing to operate during emergencies such as earthquakes and wildfires.
