Sandy Police: Driver caused two accidents, fled from both in vehicle and on foot

SANDY, Utah — A man is in custody after police say he caused two crashes and fled from both in Sandy Saturday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m., a 51-year-old driver rear-ended another vehicle on State Route 209, Sandy Police Sgt. Clayton Swensen said.

The driver then reportedly fled, but soon t-boned a vehicle where SR-209 meets 9400 South. Swensen says he ditched his vehicle in a nearby parking lot and fled on foot, but was later apprehended.

The others involved in both accidents sustained minor injuries; a person in the vehicle t-boned in the second crash had to be extricated from the vehicle.
