SLCPD identifies victim in fatal Feb. 7 hit-and-run; suspect still unidentified

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police have released the victim's name and they're still trying to identify the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on February 7.

On Tuesday, police said the victim was 78-year-old Tai Lam.

Shortly after midnight that morning, Lam was walking at 400 S 200 W when he was struck by a silver SUV, according to police.

Police say they made "initial contact" with a person of interest pictured below, but he fled the scene.

SLCPD says the man was driving a silver Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon XL that may have some "cosmetic" damage on its front end. The vehicle has "In God We Trust" Utah plates with an American flag on them.
