Suspect identified, arrested after shooting in Midvale

MIDVALE, Utah — A man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting another man and firing rounds at officers early Wednesday morning in Midvale.

56-year-old Michael Wes Burke, was taken into custody and booked into Salt Lake County Jail after police say he shot a man at the Motel 6 near 7200 S. and 300 W. and fired rounds at officers.

He now faces charges of aggravated assault resulting with serious bodily injury, aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

He is also facing a charge of robbery for at least 2 bank robberies he was previously responsible for in Murray and Kearns.

Around 2:30 Wednesday morning, officers were responding to a separate incident when they were told shots had been fired in one of the motel rooms.

Officers saw the man running away and tried to arrest him, but he fled on foot.

When the officer approached a dumpster, Burke popped up and fired several rounds at the officer before running again.

There is no update on the condition of the victim at this time.
