SALT LAKE CITY — The Wasatch Mountain Club's oldest member celebrated her birthday Wednesday.

Yenta Kaufman turned 102 and has been a member of the club since 1956.

Her first hike was to Lone Peak.

Kaufman took up ice skating at age 70, climbed Machu Picchu in Peru in her 80's, and was an avid skier and folk dancer until just a few years ago.

"I feel wonderful, just to be...so many kind people," she said. "I'm overwhelmed how many people whose lives I've been touched by."

Kaufman still takes daily walks around her neighborhood and gave up driving just a year ago.
