MILLCREEK, Utah — Nearly a week after it was ignited by lightning, the "Neffs Fire" continues to slowly spread.

The wildfire started Tuesday, Sept. 22 about a mile up Neffs Canyon above the Olympus Cove area of Millcreek.

As of Tuesday morning, it was 35 percent contained at 60 acres. Firefighters have not been able to "directly engage" with the fire in some areas due to steep terrain and other dangers. Aerial water and fire retardant drops and indirect fireline construction away from the fire's perimeter have been the main methods of working to contain it.

On Monday, Millcreek City announced a dedicated hotline for residents' questions about the fire. It can be reached at 801-743-7180 and is open until Wednesday afternoon.

There will also be a public meeting held Wednesday night. Details are available in the Facebook post below:

No homes are threatened, nor have there been any evacuations, but the U.S. Forest Service urged residents in the surrounding area to prepare just in case. Click here for tips on evacuation preparation.

Neffs Canyon and Mount Olympus trailheads remain closed, as well as all trails, trailheads and National Forest System land between Millcreek Canyon and Big Cottonwood Canyon.
