FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Florida man was busted for using federal Paycheck Protection Program money to buy himself a $700,000 boat.
Casey Crowther, 35, originally received more than $2 million from the program created to help businesses remain open during the coronavirus pandemic, WINK reports.
But instead of assisting his company, Target Roofing and Sheet Metal, Crowder ordered a 40-foot 2020 Invincible catamaran from a Sarasota company.
Authorities seized the boat after learning how Crowder paid for the vessel.
After being charged with making a false statement to a lending institution, Crowder now faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. He is now free on $100,000 bond.
