WEST JORDAN, Utah -- A 2-year-old boy who fell from an apartment window in West Jordan passed away Friday morning, authorities said.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon at the Woodgate Apartment complex at 3851 W. Cobble Ridge Drive (6960 South).
The toddler, Nicholas Quirones, fell about 20 feet from a third story window. He landed on his back on a metal grate over a window well. He suffered severe neck and back injuries.
"We've had a couple of these types of calls that haven't turned out to be this serious," said Marc McElreath, West Jordan Fire Chief. "I think it is always good with toddlers in the home to remember to check those screens and make sure they are securely in place or child proof locks on the windows so they can't be opened."
The child was transported by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital at 1:28 p.m.
In Magna, a 3-year-old fell out of a second-story window at 3541 S. Candis Drive and 7375 West at about 1 p.m. The child was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City with non-life threatening injuries.
