The following is a press release from Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Salt Lake community to help end breast cancer at American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® event Sat., Oct. 13 at Liberty Park.
WHAT: Thousands of local breast cancer survivors, volunteers, businesses and community members will unite to fight breast cancer and save lives at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Salt lake City five mile walk. This noncompetitive, inspirational event raises awareness and funds to make strides to end breast cancer by finding cures and supporting programs and services for all people facing the disease. The 7th annual Salt Lake City Making Strides event is one of more than 250 events being held across the country this year.
An estimated 1100 Utah women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 300 are estimated to die from the disease. The American Cancer Society helps breast cancer patients stay well by promoting early detection and screening to avoid breast cancer or find it at an early stage when it is most treatable.
The Society is helping people get well by offering programs and resources to help breast cancer patients and their caregivers navigate through their cancer journey.
Through events like the Making Strides walks, the Society is helping people find cures through research where we spend more on breast cancer research than any one else.
Finally, the American Cancer Society, in partnership with their sister advocacy organization, The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, fights back by making breast cancer a top priority with lawmakers across the country.
