SALT LAKE CITY -- Snow began to fall along the Wasatch Front Thursday afternoon, prompting road restrictions and school closures in certain areas.

UDOT says on its @UDOTTRAFFIC Twitter account that road snow along Interstate 15 started forty miles north of St. George through Provo in Utah County and from the Salt Lake Valley to Idaho.

The Utah Department of Transportation restricted Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons to vehicles with chains or 4-wheel drive. In Parleys Canyon, semi-trailers without chains were not allowed.

Salt Lake Community College said all of its campuses were closed for the rest of the day after 4 p.m., but they would be back in session on Friday morning.

"Road snow is currently impacting the Ogden area and will continue to work south through the evening commute," the Utah Department of Transportation said on Twitter shortly after 4 p.m.

UTA also reported delays and route changes throughout the evening on buses, TRAX and FrontRunner trains. Follow @RideUTA on Twitter for the latest updates on changes.
