SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office has determined that a Joint Criminal Apprehension Team officer was justified in using deadly force in the fatal shooting of Ronald Ontiveros.
JCAT officers were in the area of 1149 Foulger St. in Salt Lake City looking for a suspect on March 19.
Police said when the officers arrived Ontiveros began firing shots at them. The officers ducked for cover and returned fire. Ontiveros was shot and killed.
Police said Ontiveros may have started shooting because he believed the officers were coming to arrest him.
