Man in custody, several injured after shooting in Cedar City

CEDAR CITY, Utah – A man is in police custody after he fled from a traffic stop and then shot a motorcyclist on Main Street in Cedar City.

According to information from the Cedar City Police Department, an officer attempted to pull over James Alan Reynolds for a moving violation at about 5:40 p.m.

The suspect continued north on Main Street, and the pursuing officer noticed Reynolds had a firearm. Reynolds allegedly fired the weapon several times at another motorcyclist who was also traveling north.

The victim was struck with multiple rounds, and he crashed his motorcycle. The 21-year-old male victim was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

As the suspect attempted to flee from the officer he collided with westbound traffic at Center Street. The suspect and the occupants of the vehicle he hit sustained minor injuries.

Reynolds was treated for minor injuries at Valley View Medical Center, but has since been released.

After being released from the hospital, officers booked Reynolds into the Iron County Correctional Facility. He now faces several charges including attempted homicide, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, fleeing from an officer and reckless driving.
