SUMMIT COUNTY -- The evacuation order was lifted as of 8 a.m. Monday for all residents of Rockport Estates and Rockport Ranches who were displaced by a wildfire Aug. 13.
The Rockport 5Fire remains at 1,920 acres and is now 90 percent contained as of Monday morning.
The blaze was ignited by a lightning strike on Aug. 13. The fast-growing fire near Rockport State Park destroyed about 8 homes, 20 outbuildings and several vehicles.
The fire forced evacuations of more than 200 homes.
Firefighters continue to find hot spots in pockets of unburned fuels within the fire perimeter. Vehicles and personnel are still actively fighting the flames and need unobstructed access, the release stated.
Residents are encouraged to register their cell phone numbers with the Code Red Emergency Notification System. This service allows Emergency Management to notify specific areas of emergencies. Go to http://www.summitcounty.org and look for the Code Red button at the bottom of page to register.
