(CNN) — A gun found during a June traffic accident investigation has been linked to a 2012 murder that police are investigating in connection with Aaron Hernandez, law enforcement sources said Tuesday.
Following a four-vehicle crash, Jailene Diaz-Ramos, 19, of Bristol, Connecticut, was taken to a hospital, and during a search of her vehicle — which is customary when a car is towed from a crash scene — Massachusetts State Police found a firearm and several rounds of ammunition, according to the incident report.
Diaz-Ramos was not licensed to carry the weapon and was charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license and improper storage of a firearm, the report said.
The gun has been linked to a double murder outside a Boston bar, and the former New England Patriot is being in investigated in connection with the crime, law enforcement sources said.
Diaz-Ramos’ connection to Hernandez is unclear, police say.
Separately, Hernandez has been charged with friend Odin Lloyd’s murder in Massachusetts in June and has pleaded not guilty.
CNN’s Laura Dolan, Darius Walker, Lawrence Cook and Susan Candiotti contributed to this report.
