MAGNA, Utah -- A man was arrested Thursday night after police said he lead them on two high-speed chases within a week.
Unified Police said Mark West, 55, got away Wednesday after leading officers on a high-speed chase through Taylorsville.
A police officer recognized West's car Thursday night, and began following it. Unified Police Lt. Steve Shreeve said the officer tried to initiate a stop, but West fled.
"They fled here into Magna at which time the driver of the vehicle tried to hit one of our Unified Police patrol cars," Shreeve said. "As [the patrol car] was trying to deploy spikes, the officer was in the roadway-- [the suspect] tried to hit him."
The officer was not hit by the suspect, and no one else was injured in the chase.
West is suspected of several crimes throughout the Salt Lake Valley, including terrorizing a gas station clerk. He is now facing several felony charges.
