Cougars fall to Fighting Irish

Posted

SOUTH BEND, Ind.– One streak ended, another streak continued, both were bad for BYU.

The Cougars failed to put together back to back wins while their losing streak against the Notre Dame football team extended to three.

BYU quarterback Taysom Hill ran for 100 yards but only threw for 168 yards and an interception as the Cougars couldn’t keep up with the Fighting Irish, losing 23-13.

Notre Dame scored first on Tommy Rees’s first pass of the game. He hit DaVaris Daniels for 61 yards, and they never relinquished their lead. BYU did tie the game at 7-7 later in the first quarter when Hill found JD Falslev in the end zone. Falslev was back in the lineup just three weeks after fracturing his right hand.

But Notre Dame scored the next 13 points and BYU could only manage a pair of Justin Sorensen field goals the rest of the way as the Irish won by 10 on senior day.

Notre Dame has now won six out of eight games between the two schools.

BYU will finish the season next week at Nevada, where All-American senior linebacker Kyle Van Noy will return to his home town of Reno.
