KEARNS -- A teenager shot inKearns during an alleged home invasion robbery Saturday reportedly staged the incident, police said early Sunday morning.
While processing the scene Saturday, evidence was not consistent with the story told from the victim, the release stated. Detectives interviewed the boy again and he reportedly admitted the wound was self-inflicted.
Unified Police received a 911 call on a report of a home invasion robbery and shooting from 5292 S. Leprechaun Lane Satuday. The 17-year-old victim told dispatchers two suspects entered his home and pointed a gun at him.
The call was disconnected – when the victim called back a few minutes later he claimed he had exchanged gunfire with the suspects and was shot, according to a press release from Unified Police.
The teenager was transported to an area hospital and is currently in fair and stable condition.
Detectives will screen possible charges against the boy with the Salt lake County District Attorney’s Office for filing a false police report.
“There are no other involved parties and there are no outstanding suspects,” the release stated.
