Man hit by TRAX train in critical condition

SALT LAKE CITY –Salt Lake City Fire Department crews responded to a TRAX station after a pedestrian was hit by a train and critically injured Sunday night.

Dispatch officials received the request to respond to 200 West and 2100 South at about 7:56 p.m.

Jasen Asay of the Salt Lake City Fire Department said the victim is a 29-year-old male. He said the victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Remi Barron, a Utah Transit Authority spokesman, said their initial investigation indicates the arms of the crossing guard were down and the man went underneath them before being struck.

Lt. Carl Merino of the Salt Lake City Police Department said the man was attempting to commit suicide.
