(CNN) — A car and train collided Tuesday morning in Baltimore, leaving one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries, the fire department said.
One occupant in the car was killed, Ian Brennan of the Baltimore City Fire Department said. Another person who was in the car has been transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Brennan said.
The Maryland Transit Administration said the victim still at the scene was trapped inside the car.
No one on the MARC commuter train was injured, MTA spokeswoman Paulette Austrich said.
The accident occurred when the car went around a lowered gate arm at a crossing and collided with a train that was traveling 50 mph, Austrich said.
