SALT LAKE CITY — Utah jumped out to an early lead against their rivals, and they never looked back as they beat BYU 81-64 at the Huntsman Center Saturday.
The win snaps BYU’s 7-game winning streak in this series.
Jordan Loveridge was the key to the Utes early start, he made six of eight shots in the first seven minutes of the game, and he finished with a game-high 21 points. Delon Wright added 16 to help the Utes improve to 9-1 this season.
The Cougars shot just 32 percent from the field, and they could never find their offensive rhythm. Tyler Haws led BYU, and Eric Mika added 12 before he was ejected from the game after he was called for a flagrant foul-2. BYU is now 8-4.
