SALT LAKE CITY -- A man is in critical condition after he crashed his car on I-15 Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. on I-15 near 2300 South.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said speed and distracted driving were factors in the accident. They said they were in the process of cleaning up an earlier semitrailer crashwhen they saw the driver bounce his car off two retaining walls in an effort to avoid the mess.

The man was critically injured in the accident. He was taken to an area hospital via medical helicopter.

Several other accidents were reported throughout the Salt Lake Valley Tuesday morning.

There were a series of collisions and slide-offs near the I-80 ramp heading west toward Salt Lake International Airport. Two people involved in those accidents received minor injuries.

Officers said some drivers are going too fast for the weather conditions, and they are also traveling too close to other vehicles. They advise commuters to take it slow, and to be cautious on the roads.
