SALT LAKE CITY -- An expecting mother delivered her own baby in an SUV after getting stranded on a closed road during a snow storm Thursday morning.
The couple spoke with FOX 13 News about the ordeal, see the video above for their story.
Margarita Arellanes woke with labor pains. She and her husband Santiago sent their two sons to school and day care, and then got into an SUV intending to drive from West Valley City to University Hospital in Salt Lake City.
The Arellanes soon became caught in a situation which befell hundreds of motorists on SR 201. Power lines fell across the roadway during a morning snow storm, snarling traffic.
By the time they were able to exit, more than two hours had passed. They pulled into the parking lot of the first business in sight to ask for help. The owner of El Paisa Grill says when he got to the SUV he was shocked to see Margarita holding the newborn.
