TAYLORSVILLE, Utah – A man is in serious condition and police are searching for a suspect who they believe fled the state after a stabbing.

Police said they are searching for 20-year-old Ismael Chaivez after an alleged fight escalated Saturday.

Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said the incident occurred near 5500 South 3960 West around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers said the 21-year-old victim and his wife got into an argument, and the victim’s brother-in-law stepped in and began arguing with the victim.

Police said the victim left after the suspect tried using a cattle prod on him. Police said when the victim returned a short time later, the argument resumed and that’s when Chaivez allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper body.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and as of Saturday night police said he was in serious but stable condition.

The suspect fled in a black sedan, and police said they believe he may have left the state.  Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call police at 801-743-7000.
