Snow will continue to fall throughout the day Saturday and is expected to taper off by this evening, the National Weather Service said early Saturday morning.
About a half an inch of snow fell in the Salt Lake valley overnight – overall the area will see 1-4 inches, said meteorologist Nanette Hosenfelt.
Police have responded to several slide offs Saturday morning throughout the Salt Lake valley. Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons are now open after being restricted to four-wheel drive vehicles or chains earlier this morning.
The Salt Lake valley is forecasted to have high temperatures of low 30s with lows in the 20s.
Hosenfelt said they don’t expect precipitation on Christmas day.
“We’re looking at 29 degrees and mostly clear skies,” Hosenfelt said for the holiday. “We could see the inversion start to go back in.”
