SAN FRANCISCO — BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said Washington would be the toughest bowl opponent BYU would face since he took over in 2005, and he was right.
The Huskies beat the Cougars 31-16 Friday, ending the Cougars’ 4-game bowl-winning streak.
BYU tied the score at 7-7 on a Taysom Hill touchdown run in the second quarter, but the John Ross returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and the Huskies never looked back.
While BYU settled for field goals, Washington scored touchdowns and shutdown the BYU offense in the second half.
The Cougars end the season with an 8-5 record.
