CLEARFIELD — A Kaysville man died Tuesday of his injuries sustained Monday morning in an industrial accident in Clearfield, according to police.

Clearfield Police responded to an auto-pedestrian accident at Benton Packaging, located at the Freeport Center off of State Street.

Robert Benton, 67, was reportedly run over by Mark Montgomery, 49, of West Point, who was backing a Ford pickup truck down a loading ramp at the business, police said. Benton was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital with leg and shoulder injuries.

Police said Benton sustained serious internal chest injuries and died Tuesday at 12:13 a.m.

Benton, co-owner of Benton Packaging, was struck on a ramp that is shared with Freeport West Storage, police said.

Montgomery is an employee for Freeport West.

The accident is currently under investigation by Clearfield Police and the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office.
