PLANO, Texas — Retail giant JCPenney will soon have 33 fewer stores around the nation, according to a statement the company released Wednesday.
The company “will be closing 33 underperforming stores across the country in order to focus its resources on [its] highest potential growth opportunities,” the statement said.
The closings will eliminate approximately 2,000 positions, but associates who do not remain with the company will receive “separation benefits packages.”
The company does not plan to close any of its nine Utah locations.
