DAVIS COUNTY, Utah -- With the help of a large donation, a non-profit organization out of Massachusetts is donating bulletproof vests to Davis County Sheriff's K9 officers.
A group called Golf4K9's held a fundraiser in Utah in the summer of 2013, and donated $4,000 to the non-profit group Vested Interest in K9's, Inc. That group will provide the body armor for Davis County's five K9's.
"We have a small budget," Deputy Jeremy Varela said. "We depend on donations and grants to run our canine program, so having someone donate this amount of money is crucial for us to survive."
The vests are about $950 a piece and they last for about five years. The K9 officers are expected to get their new vests within the next few months.
