SPANISH FORK, Utah -- We're learning more about the mother and wife who was among five people killed in an apparent murder suicide: Kelly Boren, a fitness enthusiast and admired, devoted employee for the city of Bluffdale.
Boren, 32, left her office at the Bluffdale City building around 5 p.m. Thursday. She was due back Friday morning but never made it. Many of her coworkers learned of her death before even coming into work.
"The mood is pretty sad, pretty somber, kind of all taken back by what happened,” Bluffdale City Attorney Vaughn Pickell said.
About five months ago, Kelly began working for Bluffdale City as a human resources representative and accounting specialist. Pickell said her warm, cheerful personality earned her many friends in the office.
"She was a wonderful person,” he said. “We'll really miss her. She always was eager to help you and because she was in an HR role, she got to know just about every person.”
Flags at the Bluffdale City office were flown at half-staff Friday in remembrance of the employee so many people there came to love.
"Our hearts really go out to her family, and our prayers are with her and her family," Pickell said.
In her free time, Kelly enjoyed competing in fitness competitions, and a close friend tells us she loved helping others achieve their fitness goals as well.
A candlelight vigil will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Golds Gym parking lot in Spanish Fork, where Kelly spent a lot of her time. The gym is located at 795 East 800 North.
