BYU rallies, then falls in triple OT

Posted

PORTLAND, Ore.– The BYU men’s basketball team knew they couldn’t look past Portland to Gonzaga, who they’ll play in Spokane on Saturday.

After all, the Pilots just beat the Bulldogs and they were well on their way to beating the Cougars with an 11-point second half lead. But then Tyler Haws flipped the switch. The BYU guard set a new career high with 48 points, including a 3-pointer that tied the game at 91 with less than 15 seconds left in overtime and the Cougars pushed the game into triple overtime, before the Pilots pulled away for a 114-110 win on Thursday night.

Gonzaga narrowly edged San Diego with a 59-56 win on Thursday, giving the Bulldogs some breathing room over the Cougars for first place in the West Coast Conference.
