MURRAY — A preliminary autopsy report showed an elderly woman found dead in her Murray home, Saturday, was the result of blunt force trauma to the head, Murray Police stated in a press release Tuesday.
Shirley Sharp, 85, was discovered Saturday morning when police were drawn to the home, located at 20 E. Winchester St., while tracking a suspicious person from a traffic stop. Upon arrival officers found smoke billowing at of the house, said Officer Kenny Bass, spokesman for Murray Police.
Murray firefighters were called to the scene and discovered a fire in one of the rooms.
“It appeared to be contained in a small area of one room in the house,” Bass said. “Also in the room was an 85-year-old woman found deceased.”
Sharp’s family told police the elderly woman was a widow who had lived in the home for many years and was in good health. Police said they have yet to determine a motive or a connection between the suspect and the victim.
“It’s tragic,” Bass said. “It’s a horrific event that someone would actually have the mindset to do something like that, it’s awful.”
The cause of the fire is unknown and the person of interest is still outstanding and has not been identified.
