BOUNTIFUL — The Bountiful High School boys’ basketball team was recognized as one of the best teams in the country.
The Braves ranked 36 in the MaxPreps Tour of Champions. The Army National Guard, a partner in the championships, presented the team with a ranking trophy at a school assembly Tuesday morning.
“It’s a huge honor to be recognized nationally and it’s an exciting time for the kids and the community. The kids worked so hard and put a lot of hours in and to be rewarded is truly special,” said Mike Maxwell, head coach for the boys’ basketball team.
MaxPreps ranks more than 20,000 high school boys’ varsity basketball teams across the nation. The Braves claimed the 4A state championship over Orem on March 8 with an ending score of 44-43. The team had a perfect season until the boys went up against El Camino Real of Woodland Hills, Calif. on Dec. 19. The Braves lost by 3 points, 58-55.
“Working with the Army National Guard, MaxPreps is delighted to honor Coach Maxwell and the Bountiful Braves as one of the nation’s elite high school basketball teams,” said president and founder Andy Beal. “We congratulate the coach and Bountiful High School for a great season and earning the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.”
