RSL still unbeaten after facing Union

Posted

PHILADELPHIA– Real Salt Lake nearly snatched three points on the road Saturday.

Instead they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Union, but six games into the Jeff Cassar era, the club remains undefeated with their new head coach.

Luke Mulholland redirected a blocked shot to give RSL a 1-0 lead barely five minutes into the match. The score remained the same until the 54th minute when Philadelphia’s Andrew Wenger beat Jeff Attinella to pull square at 1-1.

Real Salt Lake retook the lead in the 85th minute with Kyle Beckerman’s second goal of the season, but RSL was unable to hold the lead. In the 90th minute Maurice Edu redirected a corner kick into the net and neither club scored in stoppage time, with the game ending tied 2-2.

Real Salt Lake takes a record of 2-0-4 back to Rio Tinto Stadium, where they will face former teammate Will Johnson and the Portland Timbers next Saturday night.
