IRON COUNTY, Utah – About 30 homes were threatened by a fast-moving wildfire near Cedar City, but officials said later Friday that the fire had been contained.
A few homes in the area were evacuated, and the evacuations were voluntary.
According to information from the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, the fire started Friday near Bulldog Road, 1 mile north of Cedar City. A press release from the Iron County Sheriff's Office stated the fire was caused by a farmer burning old vegetation in a field.
The fire impacted about 45 acres of land, and it destroyed at least three power poles. Rocky Mountain Power crews are currently replacing the poles, according to the press release from Iron County.
Multiple fire personnel from Cedar City, Paragonah, Parowan and Kanarraville and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the area.
It is estimated the loss of the power poles caused damages of about $15,000.
