SOUTH JORDAN, Utah -- South Jordan Police are investigating after a body was found in the Jordan River Sunday morning.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. officers received a 911 call from a person walking dogs along the Jordan River Parkway Trail near 10000 South.

“They noticed a foul odor in the area and happen to notice what they thought was a human body floating in the water,” said Master Officer Sam Winkler, South Jordan Police.

When authorities arrived to the Jordan River Trail area, they found the dead man in the shallow body of water.

The Jordan River Parkway Trail was closed between 9800 South and 10600 South while police investigated.

“They were recovering the body and they were pulling evidence from the water," Winkler said.

The medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy, the results of which are expected Monday.

The victim's identification and cause of death have yet to be determined.
