A routine traffic stop turned into a freak accident for an Iowa police officer Wednesday.
Jeremy Veach, an officer with the police department in Centerville, Iowa, pulled a driver over for not using her headlights. When Veach went to speak with the driver, a tree fell on him, knocking him to the ground.
“What made it such a freak deal was it was a nice evening, there was hardly any breeze, it was toward the bottom of a hill by our city park,” Veach told WHO-TV. “Upon looking at it afterwards it was just a very rotten area at the base of the tree.”
Veach sustained injuries in the accident, but was expected to return to work soon. The driver Veach had stopped wasn’t injured and didn’t receive a citation.
