FREMONT COUNTY, Wyo. — A Utah man is dead after an apparent bear attack in the Bridger Teton-National Forest, according to Wyoming officials Monday.

A search and rescue mission concluded Friday afternoon after human remains were discovered by Fremont County Search and Rescue crews. While the remains are still being identified, investigators believe they are that of 31-year-old Adam Stewart.

“The evidence is pointing towards a probable bear attack, which occurred about three nautical miles north of his campsite,” according to a press release from Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

The county coroner will ultimately make the final determination as to the cause and manner of death.

Fremont County Sheriff’s Office will continue to assist in the investigation; however it has been turned over to the County Coroner’s Office and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
