UN medical worker dies of Ebola in Germany

LEIPZIG, Germany — A United Nations medical worker who had contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia died Monday in a German hospital.

The 56-year-old Sudanese man, whose name has not been released, arrived in Leipzig for intensive treatment on October 9, according to a St. Georg hospital spokesman.

Despite intensive medical intervention, the patient died 5 days later.

This is the second Ebola-related death in Europe and the third outside of Africa this year.
