South Salt Lake police identify man who died on way to hospital after shooting

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah - Authorities are investigating a shooting in South Salt Lake after a man died on the way to the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers were called about gunshots overnight near 600 E. and Leland Ave.

Police said they found one shell casing but no one was in the area.

Less than an hour later, St. Mark's Hospital contacted police about at 32-year-old man who had been shot multiple times and died on the way to the trauma center.

Officials said a woman was in the car with the victim who was shot.

She has not been identified.

"As they drove down the street, the vehicle was approached by more than one suspect," South Salt Lake officer Gary Keller said. "At that time they opened the driver's door, reached inside, fired multiple shots."

Authorities later released the name of the victim, stating he is 32-year-old Orlando J. Roybal of South Salt Lake.

The suspects are still at large and officers said they don't have much of a description to go on.

South Salt Lake Police said they would like to speak to anyone with information about this incident.
