Utah mom explains why she and husband canceled Christmas this year

HURRICANE, Utah – A Utah mom is explaining why she and her husband are canceling Christmas for their children this year.

The Hurricane mother wrote on her blog, Over The Big Moon:

“We have not cancelled putting up decorations, celebrating the birth of our Savior, or any of our other heartwarming traditions. But, we have cancelled presents, Santa, and stockings. Their letters to Santa this year will be asking Santa to find someone who needs their presents more.”

The mother, Lisa, said she and her husband, John, felt like they were struggling with entitlement in their children.

Lisa wrote, after a bout with the kids acting disrespectful and ungrateful, it was time for a change.

She said she warned them and still months of poor behavior continued so she and John made the call.

To teach them the true meaning of Christmas, the family is taking the money that would have been spent on presents and donating it to service projects and charities.

She said the giving started with a clothing drive for those in need and since then, the children have been hooked on giving.

More projects are planned for the season.
