WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Police are looking for a man who allegedly forced his way into a West Valley City apartment and assaulted the female tenant early Sunday morning.

West Valley City Police Lt. Dalan Taylor says that at around 12:30 a.m., the female tenant of a unit at Overlook Point Apartments, located at 4620 South 2970 West, heard a knock at her sliding glass door.

She opened the door a little and asked what the man wanted, police say. He forced his way into the apartment and assaulted her. The woman fought back and he fled. The female victim had some minor injuries, including a laceration on her face. Lt. Taylor said a witness reported that it didn’t look like the assault had a sexual motive.

Police set up a containment in the area and used K9 units, but were unable to find a suspect.

The suspect is described as a Latino man in his early 20s, about six feet tall with his hair cut short on the sides and long on top. He was wearing gray sweat pants and a white shirt, and was wrapped in a maroon blanket.

The victim says she saw the man walking around the complex earlier in the day but didn’t recognize him as a resident.
