Nevada man hit, killed by off-road vehicle during rock-crawl event in southern Utah

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah — A Nevada man was killed when an off-road vehicle struck him during rock-crawling event in San Juan County Saturday afternoon, according to San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Christopher Hower, 30, of Ely, Nevada, was attending the event in the Black Ridge area in northern San Juan County, about 15 miles south of Moab. According to the Facebook page, Hower was taking pictures of the event in an unauthorized area of the track when at about 2 p.m., he was struck by a four-wheel drive vehicle, as it came off a designated jump on the track’s course.

The annual event takes place on private property and was hosted by the property owners.
