In SLC Mayor’s race, Becker has big campaign war chest

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY — New campaign finance disclosures show Mayor Ralph Becker with a sizable campaign war chest headed into an August 11 primary.

Candidates for municipal races were required to file a list of contributions and their donors to the Salt Lake City Recorder’s Office on Monday. Here’s the total campaign contributions for the mayor’s race, as of July 1:

In Salt Lake City’s hotly contested District 4 race (which encompasses most of the downtown area), businessman and one-time same-sex marriage plaintiff Derek Kitchen held a lead over Nate Salazar, the chairman of the Salt Lake County Democratic Hispanic Caucus. Downtown real-estate broker Babs DeLay, who announced she was self-funding her own campaign, only listed about $1,400 in contributions.

Incumbent Salt Lake City Councilman Charlie Luke held the fundraising lead in his District 6 race.

Former councilman Van Turner is seeking to recapture his old seat, but reported no contributions by the July 1 deadline.
